Clay Sculptures, Metal Sculptures, and Pottery

Patricia Lange

About the Artist

Patricia Lange discovered her love for metal and clay sculpture at an early age.  In her native country, Chile, she began taking classes in art. What impacted her the most was to study with sculptor Totila Albert. She admired the immensity of his steel work, leading her to a lifelong admiration for outdoor sculpture.

After moving to New York she began working in enamels with Marion Welsh,  where she combined metal and enamel.

A sculptor and a potter based in Hopewell, NJ, Patricia Lange works primarily with stainless steel and aluminum, creating large abstract structures for outdoor spaces. Combining metal and colored enamels, she fabricates three dimensional wall structures for indoor settings.

Her work in clay is also sculptural. Using high fired clays she works on 5’ feet tall abstract sculptures suited for the outdoors. Her clay work extends also to pottery, producing large free-form hand made contemporary pieces and usable ware.

Her work is installed in many corporations, such as: Bristol-Myers Squibb, New Jersey Hospital Association, Weyerhaeuser Co., 101 Carnegie Center, Princeton Unitarian Church, Curacao Trading Co., Shoemaker USA, Inc. and several private collections.

She has exhibited in many venues, including : The Ground for Sculptures in Hamilton, NJ, Bristol-Myers Squibb Gallery, Johnson & Johnson, Nabisco Gallery and most recently she was invited to show a piece at the Quark Park in Princeton.

She is a member of the Artists' Gallery in Lambertville, N.J.

On Her Work

I am basically a self-taught artist, and I see my work as a process of experimentation.  Always something new, never repeating exactly the same piece, my work is unique and reflects spontaneity.  I think art often comes from accident.

My connection with the materials is expressed by the creative process that transforms lifeless pieces of metal into artistic works that express new identity and new life. This transformation is part of my own transformation, finding new meaning in my life.

Metal and clay run parallel in my life. My love for the earth and nature and for the colors of simple things expresses itself in my art, making my clay work inviting to the touch and eye.  The warmth and the richness of the colors in my terra cotta pieces make them unique signature pieces.
